Long Museum West Bund

Organized by Long Museum and exclusively sponsored by China Guardian, "Diligence and Intelligence: Song and Yuan Dynasties Calligraphy and Paintings from Long Museum Collection" will be grandly opened on October 28, 2016 at Long Museum (West Bund), Shanghai, China. It is reported that this is the largest and highest quality private collection of Song and Yuan paintings and calligraphy special exhibitions held in mainland China after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. More than 80 pieces of Song and Yuan treasures including calligraphy, paintings, and rare ancient books will be exhibited in this exhibition.
Song and Yuan paintings and calligraphy are the highest peaks of Chinese classical art. The change of dynasties and the wars of the times have resulted in very few masterpieces handed down in the Song and Yuan dynasties. According to statistics, there are no more than 3000 pieces in existence, and most of the original works have been in major museums at home and abroad art museum collection. The works circulated in the hands of private institutions and collectors are rare.
Of the more than 80 works exhibited in this exhibition, one-half of them are from the Long Museum collection, and the other half are from the support of more than 20 collectors at home and abroad. The exhibition main displays calligraphy and paintings, plus a few rare books of ancient times. Many well-documented masterpieces that have made a splash in the market will also appear in this exhibition.
This special exhibition will last until March 31, 2017, for a period of nearly 5 months. During this period, exhibition catalogues will be published, seminars and academic lectures will be organized, and related videos will be produced. This is the largest special exhibition of the Long Museum in the fall of 2016, and it is also one of the most anticipated exhibitions this year.
