Organized by Long Museum, with the very important collectors of Chinese imperial art from all over the world joining in, Times of Prosperity—the Imperial Art of High Qing will be holding great opening on 18th August 2015 in Long Museum West Bund. Not only this is the first time a collection of all kinds of historical imperial antiques of Qing dynasty is occurring in mainland China since 1949, but also the first time all the exhibits come from private Chinese collectors.
Over the past two decades, the world has been paying more attention to Chinese imperial art of High Qing than ever. The emergence of exquisite artwork in the art market, with the great supports from private collectors, has made this exhibition possible. More than 260 pieces from ten categories including paintings, calligraphy, rare books, silk tapestry, porcelain, jade, lacquer, glass, enamel and red sandalwood furniture will be presented this time. These imperial antiques are eminent, and with a high recognition in the art market. The story about history, art, culture, and craft behind each piece reflects the preciousness of it, and more importantly proves the quality of this exhibition.
Through this exhibition, the museum attempts to recreate the big picture of that golden age, to explore the spirit of 130 years of prosperity, and to interpret the philosophy and art concepts behind it. This allows the audience to gain a new perspective on the connection between High Qing and modern China.
There are four sections in the exhibition: the Great Philosopher; the Great Unification and modern China; the Golden Age—the images and craftworks of High Qing; the diversity of art in the Forbidden City.
