Adoring Silence: Flowers, Grass, and Meticulous Insects

Qi Baishi (1864-1957), had an original name called Chun Zhi, also known by his zi (designated name) Weiqing and hao (literary name) Lanting. Later changed his name to Minhuang, zi Binsheng, hao Baishi. A native of Xiangtan, Hunan province, one of top 10 calligraphers and artists in the 20th century. Qi is good at painting flower-and-bird, fish-and-insects, scenery, characterized by his vigorous, simple, but creative composition with brief brush strokes, and the richness of his colors. Qi inherited the traditions and characteristics of the literati ink painting. He then enriched and expanded the traditional pantings with his own style.
