Jin Shangyi(1934- )was born in Jiaozuo, Henan Province. He is a doctorial supervisor in China Central Academy of Fine Arts, and the president of China Artists Association.

This work was created by Jin Shangyi for Beijing metro station, which was under construction, in 1969. The theme is "Chairman Mao in the Steelworks". This painting is Jin's only oil painting in the subject of industry.
