Artist:Zhao Wuji(Zao Wou-Ki) Oil on canvas 195x130cm 1986
Zhao Wuji (Zao Wou-Ki) (Chinese-French, 1920-2013) was born in Beijing in 1920. He was admitted to Hangzhou School of Fine Arts in 1935. He went to Paris in 1948 for further artistic studies. He steadily incorporated more Chinese influences in his work, fusing Eastern and Western aesthetics. In 1971 he rediscovered the challenging technique of China ink. He was appointed teacher of mural painting at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in 1980. He was invited to teach painting and charcoal drawing at Hangzhou School of Fine Arts. He decided to stop working with oil paints in 2008. He settled in Dully, Switzerland.

The painting 25.06.86 Peach Blossom Land was completed in 1986, at a time when Zao’s life and international reputation were at zenith. The work not only showcases the artist’s creative success and freedom, it also reflects the vast sweep and laid back nature of his emotional world.
