Youth art groups from all over the country stepped onto the stage of history and explored their own artistic language boldly and freely.

The "Southwest Art Research Group", "Northern Art Group", "Zhejiang Chi Society", "Xiamen Dada" and other art groups with distinct regional characteristics have formed a trend and build a new pattern of Chinese contemporary art. On the whole, artistic concepts and creative forms have gradually moved away from closed monotony of the Cultural Revolution and entered a new stage of openness and diversity. "Scar Art", "Local Realism", "Star Art Exhibition", "'85 New Wave", and "Chinese Modern Art Exhibition" outline the magnificent picture of Chinese contemporary art in the 1980s.

As a major art town in Southwestern China, Chongqing (and the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, which is rooted here), is full of talents, and has a pivotal position and a profound and extensive influence on Chinese art in the 1980s. Chongqing continues to contribute to the current and future development of Chinese art. From here, we will observe and explore the Chinese contemporary art landscape, extract universality from regionality, and re-recognize regionality from universality, so as to find a place belonging to China in the current increasingly globalized contemporary art world.

On the occasion of the opening of Long Museum (Chongqing), we are honored to invite Pang Maokun, Ye Yongqing, Zhou Chunya, Shu Qun, Ding Yi, He Guiyan (academic host) and other witnesses and promoters of the development of Chinese contemporary art, to explore the past, present and future of Chinese contemporary art.
