Hosted by the Long Museum’s Educational Department, the “Education in Art: Youths at Long” Internship Program is a platform for young people who love art to properly express themselves. Taking on the roles as little tour guides at the Long Museum, young people can learn how to appreciate art and convey their thoughts to an art-appreciating public. While developing an education in art, they can in turn learn to delight in educating others.
This program started in August of 2014 and is now in its sixth session. In total, we’ve instructed nearly 40 young interns to take on the responsibility as little tour guides. The program’s goal is to develop the participants’ skills in communication, enunciation, interpretation, and etiquette, allowing them to foster a sense of responsibility in addition to self-confidence. The participants in this session’s training will began acting as tour guides to “Antony Gormley: Still Moving” from September 23rd to the 24th.
Let us walk into the Long Museum together and observe Antony Gormley’s first solo exhibition in Mainland China, thinking about matters that Gormley has been turning over for the past four years: the body as a space, space as an object. Together with Antony Gormley, we can begin to understand the relationships between our bodies and the space around us and how the artist transforms an exhibition space into something that fosters new actions, thoughts, and senses.
