The children’s workshop accompanying the ongoing exhibition ("Breaking through to the Actual via the imagination: Asian Art from Long Museum Collection") seeks to combine exhibition visits with artistic creation. The young participants will first visit the exhibition in the company of professional tour guides and art teachers. Then, the teachers will guide the participants towards picking a central artwork from which an open discussion will be held to encourage thought and imagination. Finally, the teachers will help the children create works of art from mixed media.
The workshop draws on Gutai artist Kazuo Shiraga’s piece "Kaien," which is currently being exhibited in "Breaking through to the Actual via the Imagination: Asian Art from Long Museum Collection." We will investigate the best approach towards creating abstract art by guiding our young participants to first appreciate the work, understand the different ways in which color is expressed in abstract art and figurative art, recognize the flow of color and its influence, and finally, put body language into motion to feel the allure of action painting.
This workshop is part of the "Art Education Exchange Project" co-organized by the Long Museum and Rainbow Education. Rainbow Education will dispatch a selection of art teachers to participate in the design and education related to the children’s workshops held at Long Museum. We will also host discussions, practices, and exchanges with Rainbow Education to better our children’s art education programs.
Rainbow Education is committed to providing structured and consistent children’s art education, creating a smart model centered on the concept of "using forms to imagine" and forming a unique method in art education that taps on children’s inborn artistic talents with fun games. Rainbow Education strives to improve upon our young participants’ passion, knowledge, skill, and imagination, discovering the talents of each child in time and providing a childhood as colorful as the rainbow.
