David Hockney was born in Bradford, England in 1937. He is a painter, draftsman, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer. After graduating from the Bradford School of Art in 1957, he continued his studies at the Royal College of Art in London from 1959 to 1962. Hockney was an important contributor to the British pop art movement in the 1960s with the swimming pools in Los Angeles serving as one of his favorite subjects. Outside of painting, he has also worked extensively with photography. In the 1990s, he used fax machines and laser printers as an artistic means of creation. In 2009, Hockney also began experimenting with the Brushes app to create paintings on iPhones and iPads.
